In preview of their show at club LAZY GENIUS at Bumper, we asked I AM AUSTIN few questions...

I Am Austin played a storming set at Liverpool Sound City in May 2010 and have been back to Liverpool several times since, are you looking forward to a return visit to the city?

Yes are always looking forward to gigs in Liverpool. The people are always ready for a bit of the rough stuff. We also played Sound City 2011 with DZ Deathrays, excellent band!

In addition to the Blood Lips tour, you play a lot of live dates, do you prefer being on stage to studio work?

We love going into the studio and experimenting with various metallic objects, synths and what not. There is something strangely satisfying about creating electro wizardry with some big fat drums. But live gigs is where we shine, we are a great live band, we live for looks on people faces as they witness our two-piece apocalypse.

What current bands locally/nationally inspire you presently?

Since the beginning we have been inspired by the obvious DFA 1979, QOTSA, BRMC and 80's Matchbox B-line Disaster and band of that nature. But more electronic bands have shown us how to be more diverse with our sound, such as Metronomy, The Bloody Beatroots, Daft Punk and The Prodigy. Locals bands to look out for from our end are the new and exciting Doppleganger and the kings of doom, Mother Of Six.

What plans have you guys got for the rest of the year, touring/recording etc?

Promoting our new EP Blood Lips and gigging every which way we can. We just love to gig. To go back to Germany would be great, they really get our music.

What bands have you seen from round your neck of the woods/out on tour should we be checking out?

Watch out for Doppleganger and Mother Of Six.

Englebert Humperdinck to represent the UK at Eurovision, any views?

Firstly, can you introduce the band?

Discopolis comprises of three incredibly diverse intrinsic young chaps
- David Laurie and Fergus. Our music is fuelled exclusively with Blue
Wickeds.

Are you looking forward to your show in Liverpool?

Of course. Liverpool's always had a great music scene, so we're
excited to get stuck in! However, with this being our first show,
we've got a long ways to go!

Have you played in Liverpool before, do you know much about the scene here?

We don't know loads, however, we're big fans of the Zutons and more
recently a band called Outfit, who are producing some really nice
tracks. Of course we're aware the list is far more extensive and runs
way back.

What is your home scene of Edinburgh like? What venues / bands would
you recommend?

We love Edinburgh, but it's no secret that it has lived in Glasgow's
shadow for a long time... Cabaret Voltaire used to be a great venue
for bands big and small, however, the rumour is that it's shutting
down and being run as a commercial club. Liquid Rooms has also seen
some great bands. And we'd definitely recommend Bwani Junction!

What does the next 6 months hold for the band?

We're releasing our next single on the 5th of March and it's called
'Zenithobia'. Other than that we hope to keep touring, writing and to
get on the summer festival circuit.

Describe Discopolis in 3 words.

"Baby-faced trio"

Finally, something we ask everyone... What is everyone's favourite
Muppet and/or Sesame Street character? !

Probably Oscar the Grouch... He rides the grump train unashamedly, all
the way to Grumpville.

Then LAZY GENIUS needs you...

LAZY GENIUS is an all encompassing beast.... comprising of a club night, promotions company, artist representation & booking agency and marketing & PR consultancy with a relentless work ethic and 'man about town' attitude to life and work.

Rooted in a love of live music, LAZY GENIUS' primary focus is the promotion and facilitation of the best new music in Liverpool and as far beyond as we can stretch. We run regular club nights and band showcases as well as collaborating with friends old and new on lots of different projects and this year we will be launching an independent record label 'Lazy Genius Records.'

We are looking for an intern to help us in 2012 and gain some valuable experience of the music scene in Liverpool and beyond. Unfortunately, the position is unpaid, but we won't be asking for the earth... all we are looking for is someone with passion for music and who is able to commit to a few hours a week. In return we will offer you fantastic experience for your CV, occasional paid work opportunities, free entry to gigs and club nights and a lot of fun! The role would suit someone who is currently at college or university and can fit the work around existing work and study. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

The role will include...

• Assisting with the promotion of 'club LAZY GENIUS' at MOJO and other live music events.
• Assisting with the management on the night of 'club LAZY GENIUS at MOJO.'
• Online promotion via Lazy Genius' social media and contributing to www.lazy-genius.co.uk
• Research of festivals, venues and press opportunities for Lazy Genius artists.
• Assisting with the Lazy Genius show on Radio MOJO

Candidates will need to be...

• Passionate about music
• Outgoing
• Have a love of marketing and promotion
• Numerate and literate
• Within easy travelling distance of Liverpool city centre
• Able to commit a few hours a week, including evenings (especially Monday nights) and weekends
• 18 +
• Knowledgeable of the Microsoft Office package
• Experience of design, HTML and web content management would be an advantage
